The journey of the Tribuana Journal of English Education (TJEE) is deeply rooted in our commitment to academic excellence and dedication to serving the educational community in Eastern Indonesia and beyond. Established by the English Education Department at Universitas Tribuana Kalabahi, the journal was founded with a singular vision: to create a scholarly bridge between local pedagogical experiences and global advancements in English Language Teaching (ELT).
In our early years, we focused on documenting the unique challenges and triumphs of teaching English in rural and remote island settings. We recognized that teachers in these regions navigate complex intersections of identity, adapting their professional roles to meet the needs of diverse learners. Consequently, our editorial scope began to center on teacher identity, exploring how educators in diverse, often challenging, environments construct their sense of self and agency. By providing a platform for these reflections, we have aimed to elevate the voices of practitioners who are on the frontlines of education, ensuring their journeys and strategies are recognized as critical contributions to the field.
As the landscape of education shifted, our editorial trajectory evolved in tandem. We intentionally broadened our focus to embrace the wider spectrum of applied linguistics, inviting research that delves into sociolinguistics, discourse analysis, and the psychological dimensions of language acquisition. We believe that understanding how language functions in social contexts and how it shapes human interaction is essential for any educator. This expansion into applied linguistics has allowed us to bridge the gap between abstract theoretical frameworks and the practical realities of language use, offering our readers a more comprehensive understanding of the communicative process.
Furthermore, our commitment to technological advancement remains a cornerstone of our identity. Recognizing the critical need for fluency in the modern classroom, we have expanded our focus to include research on Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK), artificial intelligence, and digital literacy. This transition reflects our dedication to preparing both teachers and students for an increasingly digitized world.
Throughout our development, we have remained steadfast in our adherence to rigorous academic standards. We have continuously refined our double-blind peer-review process, ensuring that every article published in our journal meets the highest benchmarks of validity. Our belief in the democratisation of knowledge has guided our evolution from a local departmental bulletin to a scholarly venue.
